How your case manager fee is calculated
Your fee is set once per mediator and then derived on every case that mediator books. Nothing is entered case by case, which is why the Case Manager Fee tile on the Dashboard, on Cases and on Billing always agrees with the list it's sitting next to.
Fixed or percentage
Each mediator on your roster is on one of two arrangements:
- Fixed — a flat amount per case, whatever the case is worth. Nikki Safavi
bills $750 a case on six of her mediators.
- Percentage — a share of what the case actually bills.
They mix freely on one panel. On NewCo, Renee Castellano and Aisha Bellamy are both on 10%, while Marcus Hollingsworth, Daniel Okonkwo and Sofia Novak are on a fixed fee of $0 — so only Renee's and Aisha's cases contribute to the Case Manager Fee tiles at all.
What a percentage is a percentage of
This is the part that surprises people. A percentage fee accrues on the case's invoiced revenue — the invoices actually raised on that case — not on the mediator's headline day rate.
Two consequences worth knowing:
- An invoice counts as soon as it's raised. Pending, Paid and Paid Manually all
count. You don't wait for the money to land.
- If only one side of a case has been invoiced, you earn on one side. Trumbauer
v. Continental Skyline Airways has one $8,000 invoice rather than two, so Aisha's 10% on that case is $800 rather than $1,600. When the second invoice goes out, the tile moves.
The base is the net invoice amount, the same figure that feeds Mediator Revenue on Billing. Admin fees and card-processing fees are not in it.
Setting the fee
Open Mediators, click the mediator, and use the Case Manager Fee editor at the top right of their page. Pick Fixed or Percentage and enter the amount. A fixed fee reads back as an amount per case; a percentage reads back as a percentage of revenue.
Why the tiles can disagree with each other
They don't, but they answer different questions. The Dashboard tile covers the Dashboard's filters. The Cases tile covers the cases in that filtered list. The Billing tile covers the invoices in that filtered list. Change the mediator filter on one screen and only that screen moves.
